SUMMARY:

This qualification report analyzes how territory uses exercised by large companies influence the formation of luminous spaces in Natal, Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil, proposing a method to investigate intra-urban hierarchy. The study is grounded in the critical theory of geographic space and employs the characteristics identified by Santos (1979) for the upper circuit of the urban economy as a methodological filter to select the agents with the greatest capacity to instrumentalize territorial transformations in the city under analysis. For the empirical investigation, a set of companies located in the capital of Rio Grande do Norte with share capital equal to or greater than R$ 1 million was selected. The research methodology employs a set of statistical techniques to classify the levels of power, command, and centrality exercised by these luminous spaces within the city. Among the expected results, the study seeks to identify the relationship between the unequal use of territory and the formation of luminous spaces, as well as to analyze how these subspaces behave within the city, selectively organizing the urban fabric
