SUMMARY:

The aim of this study is to investigate the influence of psychosocial factors on self-reported periodontal disease among patients treated at the Department of Dentistry of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN). This observational, quantitative, cross-sectional study will be conducted among patients aged 18 years and older in the waiting area of the UFRN Dental School Clinic. Sample size calculation indicated the need to include 462 participants. A non-probabilistic consecutive sampling strategy will be employed. Sociodemographic, behavioral, and systemic health data will be collected using standardized questionnaires. Psychosocial factors and self-reported periodontal disease will be assessed using instruments validated for the Brazilian context, including the Sense of Coherence Scale (SOC-13), Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale, Perceived Stress Scale, and Oral Health Questions Set B (OHQB-Br). Data analysis will include descriptive and multivariate statistical methods using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) to evaluate the direct and indirect effects among the investigated variables. The study is expected to provide a better understanding of the association between psychosocial factors and self-perceived periodontal condition. The findings may also support the development of preventive and therapeutic periodontal care strategies focused on comprehensive patient-centered care and oral health promotion.
