The aim of this study is to outline conceptual and normative aspects of the National Humanization Policy (Política Nacional de Humanização/PNH), from its inception to the present day, using qualitative research, working on the problematic from the point of view of the state of the art. Added to the theoretical-conceptual aspect, the objective is to objectively criticize the strategies that have been used in hospitals linked to the brazilian public health system (Sistema Único de Saúde/SUS), in order to answer the problem: do these practices bring effectiveness to hospital services in Brazil? And, in this step, the hypothesis to be pursued lies in the affirmative actions, emphasizing the work of the Humanization Work Groups (Grupos de Trabalho em Humanização/GTH) as engines of the implementation of said policy in Brazil.
