Membranes have become fundamental technologies in industrial processes such as gas separation, filtration, ultrafiltration, and reverse osmosis, playing essential roles at various stages due to their advantages over conventional filters. In this context, the pharmaceutical industry generates complex effluents containing biologically active substances, organic solvents, antibiotics, salts, nutrients, chemical reaction by-products, and emerging micropollutants, such as hormones and partially metabolized pharmaceuticals. In this regard, polysulfone (PSU) membranes have gained prominence in this field of study due to their properties, including stability, high mechanical strength, and ease of modification. Membrane performance and quality are closely related to their morphological structure; therefore, specific applications require distinct morphologies. The objective of this study is to fabricate polysulfone membranes modified by the addition of CuS for the separation of pharmaceutical residues, using the phase inversion technique. The resulting membranes were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), porosity, water equilibrium content, and static water contact angle. Other properties, such as permeate flux and separation efficiency, mechanical strength, and thermal stability, will also be evaluated.
