SUMMARY:

Patient safety is a foundational pillar of healthcare quality, requiring educational strategies capable of strengthening interprofessional communication, collaborative work, and a non-punitive culture. In this context, Simulation-Based Education, combined with clinical debriefing structured through the TALK method, emerges as a promising approach for developing both technical and non-technical skills, with the potential to enhance clinical practice and improve care safety. This dissertation aimed to train healthcare professionals in the application of the Debriefing TALK method and to understand their perceptions regarding its contribution to interprofessional communication and clinical practice. This is a qualitative study conducted through action research, involving 12 healthcare professionals working in secondary care in the Seridó region of Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil, and developed at the Multicampi School of Medical Sciences of Rio Grande do Norte. The methodological pathway was organized into four stages: participant invitation, intervention planning, implementation of the educational intervention, and data analysis. The training included theoretical-practical instruction with dialogic lectures, skills training, clinical simulation, and structured debriefing using the TALK method. Quantitative data were analyzed using simple descriptive statistics with SPSS software, and qualitative data were examined according to the Collective Subject Discourse method. The study was approved by the UFRN Research Ethics Committee in accordance with Resolution No. 466/2012. The results showed a predominance of female participants and nursing professionals, with intermediate professional experience and frequent reports of communication failures, reinforcing the relevance of the intervention. Participants’ perceptions indicated that the TALK method contributed to improving interprofessional communication, organizing clinical discussions, care planning, active learning, and strengthening the culture of safety. The training was positively evaluated, with high levels of satisfaction, understanding of the method, and a sense of preparedness to participate in or conduct clinical debriefings. However, barriers related to time constraints, institutional structure, and team engagement were identified, highlighting the need for organizational support and the consolidation of psychologically safe environments. It is concluded that training in clinical debriefing through the TALK method proved feasible, well accepted, and potentially transformative for healthcare practice, contributing to strengthened interprofessional communication, meaningful learning, and patient safety culture. Longitudinal studies are recommended to assess its impact on clinical and organizational outcomes, as well as strategies to ensure its sustainability within healthcare services.
