SUMMARY:

Introduction: The Unified Health System (SUS) was conceived based on a comprehensive health model, but its implementation still faces structural and operational challenges that often result in the predominance of a biomedical model. This approach, focused on the diagnosis and treatment of diseases, compromises the implementation of more humanized and comprehensive care, as recommended by its fundamental principles. Among the impacts of this model are hypermedicalization and the routine practice of automatic prescription renewal, especially for benzodiazepines. Prolonged use of this class of medication, associated with its inappropriate management, contributes to chemical dependency and other negative health outcomes. Given this scenario, there is a need to train physicians capable of addressing these issues critically and decisively, considering quaternary care as a central strategy. This concept seeks not only to avoid harm caused by unnecessary interventions but also to promote responsible deprescribing, aligning with the comprehensive care and decisiveness expected in clinical practice. Objective: To develop and implement an educational proposal focused on the deprescribing of benzodiazepines, aimed at medical students and general practitioners. The initiative seeks to train them technically and ethically to understand and act effectively in reducing the inappropriate use of these drugs, contributing to addressing this issue. Methodology: The project will be developed in two stages. The first was a literature review to support the development of teaching materials, which will be used as technical and pedagogical support in the course. In the second stage, an asynchronous online course will be created and made available, hosted on the AVAPROEX platform. The course will include an initial questionnaire to assess participants' prior knowledge, reinforcement activities to consolidate learning, and supplementary reading materials, with the aim of promoting critical reflection and participant engagement in the teaching-learning process. The effectiveness of the course will be evaluated based on indicators of engagement, satisfaction, and knowledge acquisition by participants. Implementation will be evaluated using qualitative and quantitative indicators, considering the impact on the training and practice of professionals and future physicians. Expected Results: Considering the impact on the training and professional practice of future physicians, the proposal is expected to contribute to the reorientation of medical training, encouraging integration between teaching, service, and community. By training medical students, residents, and other health professionals. The project seeks to promote a professional profile more aligned with the principles of the SUS, with an emphasis on comprehensive care and reducing the harm associated with hypermedicalization. The expected outcome is an improvement in the care provided to patients who are chronic users of BZD, reducing the adverse effects related to prolonged use of this drug and promoting safer and more effective practices, with a reduction in the prescription of this medication.
