WEANING FROM INVASIVE MECHANICAL VENTILATION: COURSE PLAN MANUAL FOR HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONALS
Weaning, Educational Technology, Intensive Care, Mechanical Ventilation.
Ventilatory weaning, the transition from artificial ventilatory support to spontaneous breathing, represents a critical stage in the care of patients subjected to invasive mechanical ventilation for more than 24 hours. Considering the existing gap and the need to develop competency and skill standards regarding mechanical ventilation weaning, this study aimed to propose an educational offering in the form of a course plan manual on invasive mechanical ventilation weaning, intended for undergraduate programs, continuing education, or permanent education in the health field. The study followed three stages: 1. Conducting an integrative review to provide theoretical grounding based on literature related to the topic, with searches in the Virtual Health Library, other databases, and the Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations. 2. Organizing a data framework and instructions that included criteria and predictors of mechanical ventilation weaning in adult patients admitted to intensive care units. 3. Developing the structure of the course plan manual for undergraduate students and healthcare professionals. The Course Plan Manual for Mechanical Ventilation in adult patients is designed to train students and healthcare professionals to carry out the process of mechanical ventilation weaning in adult patients safely, ethically, and effectively, while considering the specificities of multiprofessional practice. The validation of the product developed in this study is intended to be conducted subsequently.
