SUMMARY:

Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) is a condition that manifests during pregnancy and may or may not persist after childbirth. Given this condition, the care offered by the Brazilian Unified Health System (SUS) is specific and aims to reduce maternal and neonatal comorbidities. Improving this care requires actions that begin with professional training and extend to continuing health education (CHE), and should consider the perceptions of women who have experienced GDM and the care strategies implemented by Primary Health Care during prenatal care. These three dimensions reveal the importance of the articulation between the fields of health and education as a fundamental element to guide such improvement. Listening to the experiences of women with GDM supported the objective of this research, which consisted of developing a pedagogical narrative capable of supporting the teaching-learning processes of Primary Health Care workers in the municipality of Caicó, RN. This is a qualitative, descriptive, and exploratory study. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with nine women who experienced pregnancy with a diagnosis of GDM (Gestational Diabetes Mellitus). The narratives were transcribed, textualized, and transcribed based on Thematic Oral History, constituting the empirical material for the construction of a pedagogical narrative guided by learning objectives for EPS (Education for Pregnant Women). The thematic content analysis of the nine narratives allowed the identification of four categories: 1) Subjective experience of diagnosis and initial coping; 2) Daily life with Gestational Diabetes Mellitus; 3) Challenges in prenatal care in Primary Care and the importance of care relationships and the multidisciplinary team; and 4) The role of the SUS (Brazilian Unified Health System) in the care and protection of pregnant women with GDM. These categories formed the basis for the development of learning objectives and supported the production of a pedagogical narrative aimed at improving care practices, encompassing everything from clinical management to care flows in prenatal care in Primary Care in the municipality of Caicó. The methodological strategy adopted has the potential to support continuing health education initiatives and guide training practices aimed at professional development in the care of pregnant women with gestational diabetes mellitus.
