SUMMARY:

Burnout syndrome is characterized as a psychological disorder resulting from chronic work-related stress and may induce changes in oral health. This study evaluated the oral manifestations associated with burnout in students and health professionals from Seridó Potiguar. In addition, an educational booklet focusing on oral and mental health care was developed based on the research data. A cross-sectional, observational and quantitative study was carried out. The Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) and a sociodemographic questionnaire were used to diagnose burnout. Participants diagnosed with burnout underwent clinical dental examinations including analysis of DMFT (Decayed, Missing, and Filled Teeth), Simplified Periodontal Index (PSR), Xerostomia Inventory, and assessment of bruxism and tooth attrition. A total of seventy students and professionals completed the MBI questionnaire. The results showed that 75.7% of the participants had scores consistent with burnout syndrome, with 68.2% in the early stage and 31.7% in the advanced stage. Significant differences were observed in self-reported bruxism and tooth wear (p = 0.036), as well as the presence of facet wear (p = 0.045) in the advanced stages of the syndrome. Conditions such as xerostomia and joint noise were also identified, but lacked statistical significance between burnout stages. The results highlight variations in oral health as burnout progresses, and reinforce the role of bruxism and facet wear as potential markers of the condition. The study highlights the importance of a multidisciplinary approach for early diagnosis and effective management, particularly by dentists, to improve the overall health and quality of life of health professionals and students. It also highlights the usefulness of health education, such as the booklet developed in this study, to raise public and professional awareness. These findings contribute to
