CONSTRUCTION OF A TRAINING COURSE ON BERARDINELLI-SEIP SYNDROME FOR NURSES IN HEALTH SERVICES
Education, Distance; Education, Nursing, Continuing; Lipodystrophy, Congenital Generalized.
Berardinelli-Seip Syndrome (BSS), also known as Berardinelli-Seip Congenital Lipodystrophy
(BSCL), is a rare condition and an autosomal recessive metabolic disorder, with significant
prevalence in the interior of Rio Grande do Norte (RN). Research has shown that knowledge
among nursing professionals about the syndrome is incipient. Therefore, the objective of this
work was to develop a distance training course on BSS aimed at nurses. This is a longitudinal
study, with exploratory-descriptive analysis, with a quantitative approach to the data. To
develop the course with a workload of 30 hours, it was necessary to prepare the course plan,
lesson plans (4), script for recording the video classes (8) and student guide to then be hosted
on the AVAProex/UFRN platform. The course will be taught in a self-instructional format, with
asynchronous video classes that are organized into four thematic study units: 1) Introduction to
Berardinelli-Seip Syndrome; 2) Morphophysiological aspects of BSS; 3) Diagnostic process and
therapeutic approach to BSS; 4) Interprofessional health care for patients with BSS. Didactic
materials such as clinical cases and crosswords were developed to support self-directed
learning, using the problematization methodology. The evaluative pedagogical method
encompasses an intrinsic aspect of each unit, as well as the pedagogical resource of the
course will also be evaluated voluntarily by the participants, through a health educational
content validation instrument, with the purpose of improvement for future updates. It is expected
that the training will significantly contribute to improving nurses' knowledge, especially with
regard to the identification and management of the syndrome.
