TEACHING-SERVICE-COMMUNITY INTEGRATION AS A STRATEGY FOR STRENGTHENING THE PATIENT SAFETY CORE OF A PUBLIC HOSPITAL
Education; Health Service; Patient safety.
Introduction: The education-service-community integration refers to the collaboration between healthcare services, educational institutions, and the community, which enables health training aligned with local health needs and improves the quality of healthcare. In the context of patient safety, this approach can contribute to the systematic dissemination of the patient safety culture within Patient Safety Centers (PSC). Justification: The strategy of adopting the education-service-community integration model can promote the improvement of patient safety culture, enhance the qualifications of healthcare professionals, and consequently optimize the quality of care provided. As a teaching hospital, it is possible to carry out educational actions with students, enabling the training of professionals and, consequently, the reduction of adverse events and harm to patients. Objectives: To strengthen the Patient Safety Center (PSC) through the integration of education, services, and the community. Methodology: This is an action research study, involving educational activities with students and healthcare professionals from HETFF. The goal was to understand the patient safety culture, qualify professionals, produce educational materials, and reduce the risks of adverse events in the unit. Ethical and legal aspects related to research involving human subjects were considered during the study. Expected Results: It was possible to outline a diagnosis of the patient safety culture in the hospital unit. This achievement supported the patient safety education actions implemented in the research, which significantly contributed to the qualification of students and healthcare professionals, promoting greater awareness and application of safety protocols. This improvement in technical and behavioral preparation directly reflects the quality of care provided, raising standards of care and safety in the healthcare environment. The positive impact reinforces the importance of continuing education in healthcare and the integration of teaching-service actions to strengthen the Patient Safety Center, promoting improvements in care practices, reducing the occurrence of adverse events, and consequently improving the quality of care.
