Family and Community Medicine Residency; Preceptorship; Medical Education.
The aim of this study was to analyze the opinion of preceptors regarding the importance of their role in the Family and Community Medicine Residency in the hinterland of Paraiba, focusing on the potential and weaknesses of the process. The study, carried out with 14 preceptors of the Family and Community Medicine Residency Program of the Patos City Hall in partnership with the University Center of Patos (PRMFC-PMP/UNIFIP) in 2024, revealed that 92.9% of the participants consider the role of the preceptor “very important” in the training of residents, and 78.6% fully agree that specific pedagogical training is essential for the effective exercise of their functions. The main challenges identified are the lack of time (85.7%) and the need to adapt to the different needs of the residents (14.3%). Regarding the impact of pedagogical training, 57.1% of preceptors point to a significant impact on the quality of teaching and 42.9% point to a very significant impact. Participants also believe that well-trained preceptors can positively influence residents' decision to pursue a career in Family and Community Medicine, with 78.6% fully agreeing. However, only 57.1% consider that their contribution is fully recognized by the institution. These results underline the crucial importance of pedagogical training to improve the quality of teaching and the satisfaction of preceptors.
