SUMMARY:

The training of specialist physicians in Primary Health Care (PHC) through Medical Residency is a crucial strategy to strengthen Medical Education and the Unified Health System (SUS). This study investigated the profile and professional trajectory of graduates from the Family and Community Medicine Residency (FCMR) program in Patos, Paraiba. The research, of a quantitative, descriptive, and documentary nature, analyzed statistical data and public documents from the National Medical Residency Commission platform. Out of 104 graduates, 97.1% (101) responded to the data collection instrument. The average age was 32.86 (SD=5.21) years. The majority were female (52.5%), from Paraiba (40.6%), graduates of private institutions (61.4%), single (57.4%), without children (71.3%), currently residing in Paraiba (54.5%). Most graduates work exclusively in the public sector (53.5%), predominantly in Basic Health Units (51.5%). The majority work professionally in Paraiba (56.4%), with 87.5% working in the Third Health Macroregion, where the FCMR is located. Regarding professional activities, 6.9% are managers in Higher Education Institutions, 13.9% are teachers, and 22.8% are preceptors, with the majority working in the training program. After FCMR, 6.9% completed or are pursuing a master's and/or doctorate, 45.5% completed a specialization/course in Preceptorship, and 47.5% intend to pursue another Medical Residency, with 27.1% choosing Psychiatry. Of the graduates, 23.8% continued to conduct some research. Regarding the completion of a second Medical Residency, 38.6% completed or are completing it, mainly in the Psychiatry field (15.4%). Regarding satisfaction with FCMR training, 82.2% rated it as very satisfactory or satisfactory, while 11.9% expressed partial satisfaction due to the practice setting. Professionals who completed a second Medical Residency (38.5%) are predominantly working in Paraiba (45.4% in the Third Health Macroregion). This study provided a comprehensive view of the Family and Community Medicine Residency in Patos - Paraiba, highlighting its impact on training, professional practice, and ongoing commitment to professional and academic development.
