SUMMARY:

Introduction: Research related to the study of disability is becoming more and more frequent, highlighting the importance of recording reliable data about disabilities, activity limitations and participation restrictions, as well as contextual factors that may influence levels of disability. disability of the population. In 2011, the WHO announced the creation of the Model Disability Survey (MDS), which is an instrument based on the biopsychosocial model of health and an important predictor of health. In view of its translation, cross-cultural adaptation and validation for different countries, it was decided to also validate its short version for Brazil. Objective: To validate the Brief Model Disability Survey (Brief MDS) for Brazil. Methods: This is a methodological validation study of the Brief MDS questionnaire for Brazil. The translation and cross-cultural adaptation stage of the questionnaire was carried out during the year 2021. For the validation stage in the year 2022, the territory of the city of Santa Cruz, Rio Grande do Norte, was divided into census tracts and sampling was carried out. intentional, estimating the number of interviews for each of these areas, with a minimum total number of 500 interviews for the final sample. People aged 18 years or over of both genders, with or without disability, with or without formal education, were included in the study. People who refused to answer all the questions in the questionnaire, who were unable to understand the instrument or who gave up before the end of the interview were not eligible. Data collection took place in two main stages: 1) home interviews to complete the online version of the comprehensive MDS-Brasil; 2) retest phase for the summarized MDS. Regarding the analysis, the distribution of the sample will be presented through absolute and relative frequency and the descriptive analysis will use the measures of central tendency and dispersion, respectively Median and quartiles. To verify the distribution normality of the quantitative variables, the Kolmogorov-Smirnov normality test was used. The psychometric properties of the Brief MDS will be analyzed using the Rasch model for polytomous data, namely: reliability, unidimensionality, monotonicity, local independence, response pattern (infit and outfit) and differential functioning (DIF). Expected results: 504 interviews were qualified through the Brief MDS and, of these households, 81 were submitted to the second interview. It is expected that the Brief MDS instrument will be reliable and valid for measuring disability in the Brazilian population and that it can contribute to the development of population-based research, improvement of public policies, improvements in health care and greater screening about functionality, serving as a support for the characterization of disabilities according to the perspective of biopsychosocial health.
