SUMMARY:

Introduction: Vaccination coverage of children in their first year of life is essential to know the effectiveness and current compliance of the PNI as a health promotion and protection strategy. In Brazil, in recent years, vaccination coverage among children under 1 year of age has been lower than recommended. Among the goals of the Program for the Qualification of Health Surveillance Actions, the vaccination coverage of some immunobiologicals is a key point for assessing the epidemiological situation in the country. Objective: to analyze factors associated with the vaccination coverage of children during the first year of life in the city of Natal, Rio Grande do Norte, according to the immunobiologicals analyzed in the Health Surveillance Actions Qualification Program. Methods: a Vaccine Coverage Survey was conducted that analyzed 693 live births in 2017 and 2018 residing in the urban area of Natal/RN. Information present in the vaccination booklets was analyzed and information of the child, mother and family was collected through an interview with a structured questionnaire. The vaccination coverage for Pentavalent 3rd dose, Pneumococcal 2nd dose, Poliomyelitis 3rd dose and Viral Triplet 1st dose vaccines was calculated. The data were analyzed from Poisson Regression, considering the sample weights of the complex sample design and the 95% confidence interval. Results: The analysis of complete vaccination coverage for Pentavalent 3rd dose, Pneumococcal 2nd dose, Poliomyelitis 3rd dose and Viral Triplet 1st dose vaccines was 67.7% (95%CI 56.6-77.1). The coverage obtained by the vaccine survey in the city of Natal-RN differs from the data recorded in the National Immunization Program Information System. Complete coverage for the 4 vaccines was higher among female children, among black and brown-skinned people, among children of women with less education, of mothers who do not work, who receive/received Bolsa Família, of the C-D socioeconomic stratum, and who do not use private services for vaccination. Final Remarks: Vaccination coverage for these 4 immunizers is below 95% in the municipality of Natal. The most vulnerable population groups have the highest adherence to vaccination. The findings of this research can contribute to the development of strategies to solve the problem of low rates of vaccination coverage in Brazil.
