Nuances of care: Perceptions of caregivers of students with disabilities

The present research aims to understand the perceptions about the health-disease and care processes of people who take care of students with disabilities at the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Rio Grande do Norte (IFRN). Accordingly, it was applied quizzes to the advisors of the Support Center for People with Special Educational Needs (NAPNE), aiming a survey of available services, as well as a number (quantitative) of students with disabilities assisted throughout the State of Rio Grande do Norte in the IFRN by these Support Centers. Beyond that, we will do documentary analysis of the registration forms of students with disabilities at the IFRN, to select the caregivers of students, at the IFRN of Currais Novos-RN; then it semi-structured interviews will be carried out using oral history with the selected people. Thus, analyzing the objective responses of the quizzes to the requirements to NAPNE coordinators, we will use the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) for Windows version 20.0 for a descriptive and analytical statistical analysis, using simple and percentage frequencies, considering statistically significant associations with p≤0.05. Regarding to the analysis of the narratives produced in the semi-structured interviews, we will choose the theoretical-methodological perspective of phenomenology, using oral history itself as an analytical tool to seek to understand from our interlocutors how they intend to describe their experiences in the act of taking care of themselves and the other, and how they represent and conceive their health-disease and care process.
