Evaluation of growth and development of the stomatognathic system in children with confirmed diagnosis of Microcephaly due to congenital infection related to Zika Virus
Microcephaly, Dentistry, Health Surveillance
Microcephaly is defined as a developmental anomaly of the head, with a change in structure and function of the body, with a complex and multifactorial etiology. Scientific evidence points to the possible association between the onset of microcephaly in children and Zika virus infection in women during the gestational period. The present study is cross-sectional, descriptive, case-control, with the objective of evaluating the changes in the stomatognathic system in children with confirmed diagnosis of microcephaly due to congenital infection related to Zika virus. Oral clinical exams of the structures of the stomatognathic system will be performed in patients residing in the V Health Region of Rio Grande do Norte. As expected results, the present study hopes that the diagnosis, follow-up and rehabilitation of these children, in the Health Care Network in the Unified Health System (SUS), will improve their quality of life, whether in health or in the field social.
