SUMMARY:

Studies on Critical Thinking (CP) in Science teaching seek to promote a reflective and analytical approach in scientific learning. By exploring skills such as analysis, interpretation, argumentation, judgment, creativity and metacognition, these researches investigate ways of teaching, promoting and applying CT in different educational contexts and in everyday life. In this research, we focused on the elaboration of criteria to evaluate the reliability of information sources, through activities that encourage students to develop their own evaluation criteria, suggesting to highlight the importance of enabling students to analyze and discern information objectively. and grounded. We carried out a pilot application in a broader project on the development of CT in two higher education classes at the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Rio Grande do Norte (IFRN). The project was approved by the Research Ethics Committee (CEP) of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN). We divided the activities into five stages and applied them experimentally. After analyzing the results of the pilot application, we identified some limitations and proposed modifications to improve the activities. The results obtained were analyzed in two parts. In the first part of the analysis, we identified limitations, observed challenges in understanding the concepts, identifying relevant information in the texts and connecting parts of the activities, and proposed modifications to improve the activities. In the second part, we focus on evaluating the data collected in activities 4 and 5, especially in relation to the reliability of the sources. We found that 60% of students considered habits as a criterion to determine the reliability of a source. Some groups also valued the presence of data and authority, without considering the context. Others relied only on common or frequent customs. Our research is still in progress, and we plan to apply a second proposed activity. So far, our preliminary results indicate that our thesis, which defends the importance of building activities that allow teachers to teach CT using criteria to assess the reliability of information sources, is in line with the data collected and the established objectives. Our preliminary conclusions indicate the relevance of this study, strengthening the importance of the development of CT in Science teaching and its impact on students' education.
