KEY WORDS:

Phonetics; Phonology; Textbook; Reading; Orthographic writing.

PAGES: 127
BIG AREA: Linguística, Letras e Artes
AREA: Linguística
SUMMARY:

This research aims to study the contents involved in possible discussions in the area of Phonetics and Phonology that are found in the Portuguese Language textbook: Spheres of Languages, by the authors Maria Inês Batista Campos and Nivia Assumpção, current teacher in the 1st grade of High School from the Professor Tertuliano Pinheiro Filho State School, in Barcelona -RN, in addition to the creation of a proposal for didactic material with suggestions for practical activities that include linguistic study at the phonetic-phonological level. Such activities will providedirect contact with reading and orthographic writing of words in a more playful way. The teacher in their respective classrooms, after a previous and in-depth study of the contents, for each suggested activity, will be able to make use of this pedagogical aid to supplement and finish their work, being able to evaluate the performance of their students, as well as correct possible flaws and fill certain gaps. These are activities with a phonetic-phonological character that have helped in fixing the content and included the semantics, pronunciations, reading and orthographic writing that the teacher can use and provide a real and meaningful application of the language, since the Phonetics and Phonology are two branches of science that have complemented each other and have a lot to  contributed, as they are hand in hand with spelling, prosody and orthoepy and, in turn, can be explored and unveiled in order to minimize the difficulties of a phonic-graphic nature that still have presented themselves very often among high school students. In order to support this study, authors who have discussed linguistic and sociolinguistic issues were considered, such as Bagno (2008); Cagliari (1997); Campos (2016); Ferreiro (1985); Soares (1994), among others. This analysis made it reflect the importance of the teacher's linguistic training to facilitate the improvement of his/her work, since it is an area of knowledge that has proved to be fundamental in the construction of student knowledge. The analysis of the textbook resulted in a survey of a significant amount of content and activities that are related, if not directly, implicitly with aspects of the phonetics and phonology of the language and, consequently, as discussed and substantiated, it is necessary tracing the paths of phonetic-phonological knowledge in the mother tongue discipline to guarantee the student the conscious internalization of these contents, manifested in orality, in oralization or in writing.
