The accelerated industrial growth associated with the expansion of agriculture has been causing concern with the generation of pollutants, being the methods of treatment of the same, aiming at the process of mitigating the damage caused by these residues. A fully studied process is the advanced oxidation process (POA), in which it aims the treatment of organic effluents. In this work, heteroestructured nanocomposites were obtained from titanium oxide and cerium oxide, forming CeO2-TiO2 and TiO2-CeO2, varying in the proportions of 10, 30 and 50% Ti and 10, 30 and 50% Ce respectively, being synthesized by the Pechini method and the microwave-assisted hydrothermal method, with subsequent calcination at 500 ° C. Then, the aims of this work was to investigate a photocatalytic activity through the degradation of methylene blue dye, commonly transmitted by the textile industry. The compounds were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and UV-Vis spectroscopy (UV-Vis). Photocatalysis activity was verified by the degradation of methylene blue in a closed chamber under UV radiation for a period of three hours. The results showed nanocubes and nanospheres morphologies with different levels of agglomeration and average particle size ranging from 2 to 24 nm. For the nanocomposite using CeO2 as the matrix, the compounds with 30 and 50% showed better photocatalytic activities degrading approximately 80% of the dye. About the heterostructures using TiO2 as a matrix, the nanocomposite TiO2-CeO2 10% Ce synthesized by the microwave-assisted hydrothermal method showed the best photocatalytic activity, degrading the whole dye.
