RESUMO:

More than 30% of the elderly who fracture the femur in Brazil die in a year and only one part goes back to walking. Bone is especially vulnerable to fractures in older people due to a loss of density and strength with age. This effect is especially severe in women due to hormonal changes associated with menopause. The use of biomaterials has been considered as a promising alternative to traditional methods of bone repair, such as metal implants and autografts. The use of innovative biotechnologies presents a multidisciplinary approach, combining materials with biological tissues for the purpose of developing innovative biomaterials with potential to improve the quality of life and create new paths for economic development. Among the vast field of biomaterials, research related to bioceramics is progressing at a fast pace in order to develop new materials with enhanced physico-chemical, mechanical and biological properties. Tricalcium phosphastes stands out among the bioceramics for its biodegradability and biocompatibility. Infections are considered to be one of the most serious complications during the postoperative period. One answer to this problem is the use of an antibacterial system. The antibacterial activity of silver ions is known to have strong bactericidal effects as well as a broad spectrum of antimicrobial activities. Therefore, the objective of this work is to produce biocompatible ceramics based on tricalcium phosphate, covered with silver, through the tapecasting method to be used as implants in order to stimulate the growth of the bone tissue with antimicrobial effect. The ceramic slurries were characterized by rheological tests, thermal analysis (TGA and ATD), X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray fluorescence (FRX), density / porosity and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results showed that the suspensions presented pseudoplastic behavior, suitable for the process via tape casting. The TGA curves of the tapes showed similar profiles, in which the total mass loss process occurred in three stages, in the temperature range of 30 ° C to 1200 ° C. The XRD patterns of the ceramic tapes revealed β-TCP phase formation according to standard form (JCPDS 009-0169). The chemical composition of the material confirmed the presence of silver and the elements composing the β-TCP phase. It is possible to observe in the micrographs homogeneous structures and the presence of micropores. Finally, the method employed and the processing conditions favored the obtaining of ceramic tapes, based on TCP.
