ASSOCIATION BETWEEN INHIBITORY CONTROL, WORK MEMORY AND PHYSICAL CAPACITY IN ELDERLY PRACTICING IN PHYSICAL EXERCISES IN THE AQUATIC ENVIRONMENT
physical capacity, cognition, aging, elderly.
Introduction: In Brazil it is estimated that in 2030 the number of elderly people will exceed that of children and adolescents, representing 41.5 million people, or 18.7% of the population. This aging concerns the areas of public health, gerontology and geriatrics, considering that aging usually brings with it morbidities, in addition to generating functional, cognitive and physical losses that work together so that the individual can enjoy their independence in the day's tasks the day. Objective: Analyze whether there is an association between the cognition represented here by the executive function (working memory and inhibitory control) with the physical capacity of elderly people who practice multicomponent exercises performed in the aquatic environment. Methodology: Will be carried a cross-sectional, analytical, descriptive study out with a sample consisting of 79 individuals, 21 men (aged between 61 and 88 years) and 58 women (aged between 60 and 94 years) participating in the extension project “ Minha Melhor Idade ”from the Department of Physical Education at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte, being evaluated working memory, inhibitory control and physical fitness are evaluated. The results will be treated by descriptive and inferential statistics using the software SPSS v.23.0 (Inc., Chicago, USA). Expected results: As a result, it is expected that there will be an association between the dependent variables already mentioned, in addition to preserving physical, cognitive and functional capacities since the elderly are active and practicing multicomponent exercises in the aquatic environment.
