The Postgraduate Program in Physical Education - UFRN provides, through its scientific production and critical mass training, the advancement of Physical Education as an area, which can aid in public health, sports and leisure policies in the municipality, state, in the region and in the country.

Program Objectives:

(a) To train researchers in the different areas of knowledge that make up Physical Education, at the Master's and Doctoral levels;

(b) To contribute to the production of academic-scientific knowledge related to the subareas of Physical Education - Human Movement, Culture and Education and Human Movement, Health and Performance - through the development of research and studies that contribute to the evolution of knowledge in the area of human movement, in a globalized context and in a perspective of complementarity;

(c) To promote technical-scientific events with the purpose of dissemination of knowledge and exchange among researchers, students and professionals of Physical Education and related areas;

(d) To meet the demand for training and qualification of human resources for undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Physical Education and related areas, at the state level and, above all, in the northeastern and northern regions of Brazil.

 

Profile of the professional to be formed:

The Postgraduate Program in Physical Education - UFRN, at master's and doctor's level, is aimed at the training of higher level teachers, with research competence, and of other human resources for the various knowledge areas of Physical Education. The training should provide the egress to acquire knowledge and skills related to the conduction of scientific research, production and dissemination of knowledge, both at the micro and macroscopic level, in the themes related to Physical Education.

AREA OF CONCENTRATION

The Postgraduate Program in Physical Education - UFRN, at master's level, is organized in two concentration areas with the respective lines of research.

 

1) Human Movement, Culture and Education: Human movement is investigated as a sociocultural phenomenon and its articulations with social and educational processes, dialoguing with the theoretical methodological framework of the human and social sciences.

Socio-Philosophical Studies on the Body and Human Movement: Covers socio-philosophical investigations on the body and human movement for the analysis of contemporary social processes and for theoretical-conceptual formulation in the field of Physical Education.

Pedagogical Studies on the Body and Human Movement: It covers investigations on theories of education, the body and learning, relating them to the teaching of Physical Education and processes of initial and continuing education.

2) Human Movement, Health and Performance: Human movement is investigated from the perspective of performance related to health promotion, social well-being, and performance, producing knowledge from different methodological approaches and possibilities of application to situations of professional intervention.
