RESUMO:

The University Extension articulates inseparably Teaching and Research, having in its principles the formation of the student and the social transformation. The physical exercise practices performed in the project alternated between strength training and combined training, aiming, among other factors, at improving aerobic fitness and muscle strength and these are directly related to the performance of activities of daily living. “VIVER MAIS” extension project, created since 2007, aims to promote physical exercise and dietary counseling to improve the quality of life of people living with HIV / AIDS and increase adherence to traditional drug treatment. Thus, the present study aims to perform the historical rescue of the 12 years of the VIVER MAIS Project in the areas of Teaching, Research and Extension. This is a historical research, conducted from interviews with the teachers who participated in the project, as well as the analysis of academic papers and published articles. Thirty academic papers were distributed among undergraduate, specialization, master's and doctoral levels, in addition to the publication of nine articles. Most of the studies were performed in a cross-sectional manner or with the intervention of physical exercise and dietary counseling, analyzing different associated variables. The project has faced a number of challenges over the years, such as lack of resources and difficulties in attracting volunteers, as well as lack of structure. Verifying what has been done so far enables us to identify the repercussions of training programs from both a subjective and performance perspective in performing their daily activities. After the formation of several teachers, masters and doctors, the project today has greater academic strength and the possibility of expanding its performance to a larger audience.
