RESUMO:

People with intellectual disabilities (ID) exhibit mobility limitations, which demonstrate a prevalence of up to 63%, where mobility depends on various body functions, structures and abilities, such as balance and gait, people with (ID) , have the balance affected when compared to people without (DI), problems with balance begin when young and remain throughout life. The objective of the study was to evaluate the effect of Functional Training on the postural control of people with Intellectual Disability. Sixteen individuals aged between 17 and 43 years were evaluated, 12 men and 4 women, all of whom underwent 12 weeks of intervention through the Functional Training methodology. The components of the postural control were evaluated: Area and total displacement, pre and post intervention, these measurements were performed in the Force Platform, triaxial. Descriptive statistics were used with individualized values for postural control. For the inferences regarding possible modifications between the pre-test and post-test, we use the change delta by the following equation: Δ = ((Post / Pre) -1). The main finding of this study points to the individual strategies of evaluation, as well as to the individual particularities in the improvement of the components of the postural control studied. Based on the results we can conclude that for the group studied the practice of Functional Training can be an effective strategy for improvement and / or maintenance of postural control and that the standardized procedures to evaluate the Balance of individuals with intellectual disability can be useful in new research.
