SUMMARY:

Fibromyalgia is characterized as a condition of generalized pain, associated with fatigue, sleep changes and psycho-emotional disorders. It is more prevalent in women aged 22 to 55 years and causes significant changes in quality of life and in the performance of activities of daily living. The diagnosis is clinical and occurs from a detailed anamnesis, as well as the evaluation of specific tender points in the body. The treatment is multidisciplinary and involves pharmacological strategies, such as the use of analgesic, anti-inflammatories and corticosteroids, non-pharmacological interventions such as Physiotherapy, psychological support and Integrative and Complementary Health Practices, especially acupuncture. Acupuncture, especially craniopuncture, may be a promising tool in controlling the signs and symptoms of the disease. Craniopuncture is a type of acupuncture that uses the scalp microsystem to treat various issues, such as pain complaints, depressive conditions or conditions related to central nervous system problems, as craniopuncture acts on reflex areas of the brain that correspond to areas of the cerebral cortex. The interest in the study was based on the researcher's clinical experience, which evidenced the growing number of people with fibromyalgia who sought the specialized service in Integrative Practices in which the researcher works. Thus, there was concern about which strategies should be used for this public, and immediately, the use of craniopuncture was considered because it is an easy-to-apply technique, where it is not necessary for the patient to lie down or need to undress, in addition to not interfering with the patient's mobility. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of craniopuncture on the variables pain, depression and quality of life of people with fibromyalgia. The study will take place in two stages, the first will be conducted through a methodological study for construction and semantic and clinical validation of a craniopuncture protocol for a patient with fibromyalgia. In the second stage, an intervention study will be carried out, of the randomized clinical trial (RCT) type. The trial will be registered on the REBEC platform (Brazilian Registry of Clinical Trials) and conducted in accordance with the Consolidated Standards for Reporting Trials (CONSORT). The ethical principles of research involving human beings will be respected, according to resolution 466/12, approved by the National Health Council of the Ministry of Health.
