SUMMARY:

The cluster of neuropsychological symptoms is related to the presence of two or more emotional and/or behavioral symptoms that may appear in the cancer patient. In this context, women with gynecological cancer undergoing brachytherapy treatment may develop symptoms related to anxiety-sleep disorders and fatigue that are part of the neuropsychological symptom cluster. It is believed that among the non-pharmacological strategies that can contribute to symptom management are Integrative and Complementary Practices, such as laser auriculotherapy, which is a modality of acupuncture that is being used in studies to manage symptoms. Therefore, the study aims to evaluate the effect of laser auriculotherapy in reducing the cluster of neuropsychological symptoms associated with anxiety - sleep disorders and fatigue in women with gynecological cancer undergoing brachytherapy. This is a multi-method study, composed of two subprojects - methodological and experimental research of the randomized clinical trial type. In the first subproject, the construction and validation of a protocol will be carried out describing the technique, materials and points of laser auriculotherapy to reduce anxiety, sleep disorders and fatigue. This stage will follow the Psychometrics framework through three poles - theoretical (scoping review), empirical and analytical (validation and statistical analysis). The second subproject will be developed through a randomized controlled, double-blind clinical trial, carried out with women diagnosed with gynecological cancer undergoing outpatient brachytherapy treatment. The study will be carried out at the Norte Riograndense Cancer League, Natal, Brazil. It is noteworthy that the Experimental Group will receive laser auriculotherapy at determined points according to a validated protocol. And, the Control Group (placebo) will receive a simulation of laser auriculotherapy. The sample will be of the probabilistic type carried out using sample calculation. Regarding data collection instruments, the Beck Anxiety Inventory, Sleep Quality Index, Piper Fatigue Scale and a participant characterization instrument will be used. It is important to highlight that the project will follow the ethical requirements for research with human beings and will be assessed by the Research Ethics Committee.
