SUMMARY:

Introduction: Intense weight gain after entering university is frequent. In this context, the importance of empowering nurses in the development of health promotion strategies, based on the inference of accurate and precise diagnoses, is highlighted. Objective: To validate the content of the nursing diagnosis Overweight in university students of the Nursing course. Method: This is a diagnostic validation study based on Lopes e Silva's
(2016) framework, through content analysis by judges and clinical validation. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, using measures of central tendency, dispersion and calculation of absolute frequencies and percentages. The selection of judges followed the Collective Wisdom Model. The Shapiro-Wilk test was applied for analysis of normality. The proportion of judges who agree with the presented items was obtained using the Content Validity Index and the Wilcoxon statistical test. A p-value > 0.05 was adopted. The project was approved by the Research Ethics Committee, under opinion 4,953,282 and CAAE 48202221.6.0000.5537. Results: In the first stage of the study, 48 judges participated, 37.5% with an advanced beginner level of expertise. All items were considered statistically valid. Most of the judges' suggestions were accepted. Thus, the
judges' analysis resulted in: 1 essential attribute excluded and 1 modified; 7 modified clinical antecedents; and 1 modified clinical consequent. A new structure of the nursing diagnosis “Overweight” was proposed for clinical validation. Conclusion: The study, so far, has allowed us to ascertain the clarity and adequacy of the clinical elements listed for further clinical validation.
