SUMMARY:

The diagnosis Health risk behaviors is present in different populations, however, research is scarce
in university students.Risk behaviors are associated with the occurrence of negative consequences,
in the short and long term, on the quality of life of individuals. Faced with this reality, it is essential
to validate the aforementioned nursing diagnosis for the university public. Therefore, the objective
of the present study is to validate the nursing diagnosis. Risk-prone health behavior in college
students. This is a methodological study, developed in three stages, namely: theoretical-causal
validation, based on the construction of a medium-range theory; content validation; and clinical
validation through an accuracy study. In the first step, a middle-range theory was developed for the
diagnosis of Risk-prone health behaviors, which was operationalized through an integrative
literature review. We sought to identify essential attributes, clinical antecedents, clinical
consequences, conceptual and operational definitions, and causal relationships between identified
concepts. The databases used were Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature,
SCOPUS, National Library of Medicine and National Institutes of Health and Web of Science. The
final sample consisted of 87 articles. The definition and essential attributes of the diagnosis, 14
clinical antecedents and 11 clinical consequences, 12 propositions and 14 causal relationships were
constructed. A pictogram was also produced to illustrate the creation of the theory, called
“ComPoRis Theory”. In the second stage of the study, content validation was carried out by judges,
with a sample of 48 experts who responded to the survey, using the Google Forms online form, in
order to judge the adequacy of the definition, attributes, antecedents and clinical consequences. The
suggestions sent by the specialists were analyzed, culminating in the readjustment of the definition
of the diagnosis and essential attributes, as well as in 13 clinical antecedents and 12 clinical
consequents and their respective previously constructed conceptual and operational definitions. For
the development of the third stage, a study of the accuracy of the diagnosis Risk-prone health
behavior will be carried out, with 120 university students from the Federal University of Rio
Grande do Norte. Data collection will take place between August and October 2023 at the Nursing
Department of the aforementioned university. For data analysis, SPSS software will be used for
descriptive statistical analysis and R software for latent class analysis of the clinical indicators of
the diagnosis under study. The project was approved by the Research Ethics Committee of the
Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte, under opinion nº 4.953.282 and Certificate of
Presentation for Ethics Appraisal nº 48202221.6.0000.5537. Through this study, it is believed that it
will be possible to contribute to a better planning of nursing care for university students in order to
promote a better quality of life, in addition to making the NANDA International taxonomy
increasingly updated for the work process in nursing .
