Evaluation of safe care for renal patients affected by hemodialysis: a quasi-experimental study
Hemodialysis, Care, Nursing, Patient Safety, Health evaluation.
The hemodialysis procedure is a complex and multidisciplinary process, which requires the use of equipment to assist in the care of chronic renal patients, this practice potentiates the occurrence of adverse events. Therefore, it is essential that establishments that perform hemodialysis undergo frequent evaluation processes with the aim of identifying weaknesses and strengths of the care provided and, thus, outlining interventions and advances in the process of caring for patients undergoing hemodialysis. Thus, this study aims to evaluate safe nursing care for patients in hemodialysis units. This is a quasi-experimental study with a before and after quantitative approach to assess safe nursing care in hemodialysis units in the metropolitan region of Natal. The data collection procedure will be organized into: Evaluation 1, in which the selected units will be evaluated using a previously validated instrument; Intervention An extension course will be created with an educational character about safe care in dialysis units, aimed at nurses and nursing technicians in each of the evaluated units; Evaluation 2 will be based on the evaluation of effects related to the improvement of safe care in the hemodialysis units, after the intervention. The service will be evaluated by assessing the instruments referring to he structure, process and result in the hemodialysis units, to assess the non-conformities of safe care for the chronic renal patient undergoing hemodialysis, the Pareto Diagram will be used, a management tool of quality to identify failures and their respective causes. The evaluators will verify the compliance level of the data collection instrument items. Thus, scores will be assigned to those considered adequate, partially adequate and inadequate. Data will be stored in Microsoft Excel 2010 software spreadsheets and subsequently analyzed using inferential descriptive statistics, using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) statistical program and to determine the level of agreement between evaluators, the Kappa coefficient will be measured. The present study was submitted to the Ethics and Research Committee of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte.
