SUMMARY:

Introduction: chronic diseases are globally responsible for almost 71% of all causes of death and morbidity in Brazil and in the world, and include cardiovascular problems, diabetes, neoplasms and chronic respiratory diseases, with multiple etiologies associated with risk factors such as inadequate diet, smoking, alcoholism and sedentary lifestyle, in addition to socioeconomic factors, contributing for these to be defined as of great worldwide importance. With the coronavirus pandemic, which causes the disease COVID-19, there has been a worsening of chronic conditions, mainly those related to the respiratory and cardiovascular systems, obesity and smoking, ranging from milder and moderate or severe symptoms, to the death. As consequences of the pandemic, difficulties in carrying out the longitudinal care of users in health services are cited, mainly at the level of primary care, due to social distancing and also the post-COVID condition, which implies some inability of the individual to carry out activities basic and instrumental life. According to Orem's theory, daily life activities are related to the self-care capacity expected of any adult person living with chronic conditions. Objective: to analyze changes in the self-care of people with Chronic Diseases in a post- COVID condition, in the light of Orem's Theory. Method: descriptive and exploratory study, with a quantitative approach, which will have as research site the basic health units in the urban area of the municipality of Ceará Mirim, metropolitan region of Natal, capital of the State of Rio Grande do Norte. The population will be users with chronic disease registered in the units, aged 30 years or older and affected by COVID-19. Data will be obtained through the structured form “Clinical Sheet for post-COVID conditions”, adapted for the research, consisting of closed questions and will be applied through a structured interview. The interview will be held at the basic health unit or at the participant's home, to be defined. Data will be tabulated, organized and analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Science version 22.0. They will also be grounded and related to the concepts of Orem's Theory. All procedures in this research will be governed by the ethical precepts of Resolution nº. 466/12 of the National Health Council for research with human beings. Expected results: to contribute to the identification of implications in the self-care actions of users in a post-COOVID-19 condition and to support the nurses' work process regarding the rehabilitation of these users at the primary care level.
