SUMMARY:

In Brazil, the diverse, competitive and exhausting universe of work, most of the time, generates significant impacts on the physical and mental health of workers. Anxiety and depressive symptoms are present in several health professionals and in several places around the world. Studies show that the main reason for absence of health professionals for more than 15 days at work are depressive episodes. In addition, anxious, depressive and stress symptoms are observed among undergraduate and graduate students, as a result of that it is necessary to track scientific data that deal with the factors associated with these symptoms and/or illness. The objective of this work is to identify the prevalence of levels and associated factors of anxiety and depression in nursing residents in the state of Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil. This is a cross-sectional study, to be carried out with residents who are currently at the Hospital Universitário Onofre Lopes, Maternidade Escola Januário Cicco, Escola de Oncologia – Liga contra o Câncer, located in the city of Natal/RN, Hospital Universitário Ana Bezerra in Santa Cruz -RN and primary care health services in the cities of Mossoró, Currais Novos and Caicó. The analysis of the material will evaluate the categorical variables using the Chi-Square test or Fisher’s exact test according to the test’s suitability for the data and likelihood ratio. Data will be processed using SPSS software and presented in graphics and tables. At the end of the study, it is expected to profile the levels of anxiety and depression of nursing residents in the state of Rio Grande do Norte and, after evaluating the results, lay emphasis on the possible presence of mild, moderate and severe symptoms of anxiety and depression in these residents, managing to include the results of this problem in nursing journals, as well as structuring the results with scientific evidence. That way, sharing with the services and showing evidence of need for care within this public, especially with regard to the prevention of mental illness.
