SUMMARY:

Neonatal jaundice characterized by the yellowish color of the skin and mucous membranes, which progressively manifests in the cephalocaudal direction. It has a high prevalence and affects 84% of healthy newborns in the first week of life. For 60% of these, it is a physiological phenomenon, which appears on the second or third day after birth and disappears in approximately fifteen days, without the need for treatment. Some newborns have more severe conditions that require intervention such as phototherapy treatment. Objective: To assess the degree of implementation in the dimensions of structure, process and outcome in the care provided by nurses to newborns using phototherapy for the treatment of neonatal jaundice. Method: this is a normative evaluation study, with emphasis on the degree of implementation of an intervention, investigated through the triad structure, process and result. The study will be conducted in a public maternity hospital located in Natal Rio Grande do Norte. All nurses working in the neonatal units of the institution under investigation will participate in the study. The choice will be random in a non-probabilistic way and nurses working during the data collection period, who provide care to newborns undergoing phototherapy, will be included. Data collection will take place from October to December 2021 through an instrument designed for the study with dimensions: structure, process and results and their respective subdimensions and criteria. Data analysis will be performed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS)® software, from the perspective of descriptive statistics and attribution of value judgment according to the assigned grade. The project was submitted to the Research Ethics Committee of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte, awaits an opinion, and will follow the ethical principles in accordance with Resolution 466/12 of the National Health Council. quality of care provided by nurses in the care of newborns in phototherapy.
