SUMMARY:

The safety of assisting patients with mental disorders for years has been neglected, therefore, when considering the particularities of these individuals, it is necessary to qualify services and professionals for the development of safer actions and minimization of risks. Thus, the importance of carrying out periodic assessments in the services is highlighted to identify weaknesses and potentialities in care in order to promote the adequacy of the units through the implementation of actions that promote patient safety. In this perspective, the present study has the guiding question: What should be the content and appearance of a protocol for the assessment of safe nursing care for patients with mental disorders? And, the general objective is to develop a graphic protocol validated in its content and appearance to evaluate safe nursing care for patients with mental disorders. This is a methodological study with a mixed approach, based on Pasquali's psychometry, organized into three procedures: theoretical procedures, in which a focus group will be held with professionals in the mental health area and a Scoping Review on safe care for patients with mental disorders to define the contents that will make up the protocol; empirical procedures for the construction of the graphic protocol and validation of its content and appearance through the Delphi technique via electronic form in Google forms, with the collaboration of judges/experts in the area in question; and analytical procedures, a step intended for data analysis where the Content Validation Coefficient calculation will be performed, items that have an agreement equal to or greater than 80% will be considered valid. It is noteworthy that this research will respect the ethical precepts established in Resolution No. 466, of December 12, 2012, and No. 510 of 2016 of the National Health Council upon its approval by the Research Ethics Committee of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte .
