SUMMARY:

Cardiovascular diseases are considered chronic non-communicable diseases and have a great impact on the health of the population, they can be treated both clinically and surgically. Myocardial revascularization and cardiac valve replacement surgeries are frequent. In the postoperative period of cardiac surgery, among the most frequent complications, pain is a sensation commonly experienced by the patient, which can be mitigated through pharmacological and non-pharmacological therapies. Thus, the present study has the general objective of evaluating the effect of music on pain relief during bathing in the bed of patients in the immediate postoperative period of cardiac surgery. And the specific objectives are to identify characteristics of pain during the bed bath of patients undergoing cardiac surgery; compare the effect of using music on pain in the control group and in the intervention group; to verify the association between pain intensity and vital signs. This is a randomized, controlled and double-blind clinical trial, with a quantitative approach to the data that will be carried out in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Hospital Universitário Onofre Lopes (HUOL) of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), the sample group will be 52 patients undergoing open heart surgery, divided into Control Group (CG) and Intervention Group (GI), where the GI will receive the intervention with headphones with sound, while the CG only the headphones without sound, during the first bed bath after surgery. In order to guarantee randomization, a site that makes the random selection of participants is used, to avoid bias in the research, it was decided to classify two types of researchers, the researcher 01 will be responsible for the allocation of possible participants, randomization and application of the headphone, while researcher 02 will apply the data collection instrument while bathing in bed, being the researcher blind. The data collection instrument will be a questionnaire containing clinical data and pain level assessment in three phases: before, during and after the bed bath. This project was submitted by the Research Ethics Committee of HUOL and approved under CAAE: 11745419.6.0000.5292. The data will be analyzed by descriptive and inferential statistics. The study seeks to contribute to improving the quality of care offered to patients, through a non-pharmacological alternative for pain management.
