SUMMARY:

Syphilis is considered a sexually transmitted infection, of a systemic and curable character, caused by Treponema pallidum and treatable with antibiotics. It has high rates of vertical transmission, aggravating serious problems of morbidity and mortality as a congenital syphilis. Consequences for pregnancy and the fetus are might be severe, it causes approximately 300 thousand fetal and neonatal deaths per year, in the world, and places an additional 200 thousand infants at increased risk of prematurity, in addition to abortions and congenital disease, with severe sequelae to the child. Its general objective is to analyze the reported cases of Gestational and Congenital Syphilis in the State of Rio Grande do Norte-RN. As specific objectives: To identify the incidence of reported gestational and congenital syphilis cases in the state of Rio Grande do Norte-RN; to characterize the sociodemographic profile of pregnant women diagnosed with gestational and congenital syphilis in the state of Rio Grande do Norte-RN; to describe the factors that are related to reported gestational and congenital syphilis cases in the state of Rio Grande do Norte-RN and to compare the costs with the prevention and diagnosis of gestational syphilis with the hospitalization for the treatment of congenital syphilis. It is a quantitative epidemiological approach, of the descriptive and ecological type, originating from secondary data, having as area of scope the State of Rio Grande do Norte. Population composed of all reported cases of gestational and congenital syphilis, occurring in the period of 2018. The data will be extracted from the Agravos Notification Information System. For statistical analysis, the following tests will be used of Chi-square or Fisher's exact, as well as calculated the Odds Ratio with respective 95% confidence intervals (IC95%), followed by logistic regression to obtain the adjusted values to verify the associations between the variables of interest. The significance adopted was p<0.05 and will be analyzed through the statistical program SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) version 23.0. In consideration of the ethical aspects, since this is a study that will make use of secondary data, the analysis of the Ethics and Research Committee will be waived.
