SUMMARY:

Nursing care for adolescents with overweight or obesity occurs in the school context or in primary care services through multiprofessional interventions aimed at promoting healthy habits for weight control. There is, however, a lack of an approach to nursing care in this context that is based on the theoretical framework of the discipline and on the principles, values and concepts of nursing, which allows the implementation of interventions focused on the needs of adolescents. A medium-range theory for nursing care of this population would fill this gap, provide nurses with an understanding of their role in caring for this population, and contribute to the advancement of theoretical nursing knowledge. Objective: To develop a mid-range nursing theory of nursing care for adolescents with overweight or obesity in the context of Primary Health Care. Method: This is a theoretical study, of an analytical nature and qualitative approach. Nola Pender's Conceptual Health Promotion Model will be the foundation for the theory to be developed. The contributions by Walker and Avant for the development of theory will support the procedural phases of the study. The study will be operationalized in 4 stages. The first step is to carry out a Scoping Review in order to identify the concepts and proposals for the theory to be developed. In the second stage a concept analysis of the concept of nursing care of adolescents with overweight or obesity will be conducted to identify its attributes, antecedents and consequences. The third stage will be the construction of theoretical statements through the synthesis process. This strategy envolves the identification of theoretical statements in the evidence literature and the construction of new statements. In this study, the statements identified in the literature will be interpreted, grouped, and summarized in new statements to form the new theory. With the objective of organizing and structuring the medium-range theory, fourth stage, the principles, concepts and main propositions of the Nola Pender's Health Promotion model will be derived and integrated to the synthesis findings. The theory derivation strategy consists of the process where a set of interrelated concepts or an entire structure is moved from one field to another and modified to suit the new field. The theory will be presented in a graphic and explanatory way. The study will not seek approval from the Research Ethical Committee because it does not envolve human subjects. However, all ethical considerations for the use of the literature will be observed.
