SUMMARY:

Studies of diagnostic accuracy in nursing aim to contribute to the nurses' diagnostic reasoning in clinical practice. In patients with heart disease, the diagnosis of activity intolerance is frequent and needs further study. Thus, the present study aims to analyze the accuracy of the defining characteristics of the nursing diagnosis activity intolerance in patients with heart disease. This is a cross-sectional, diagnostic accuracy. The sample will consist of 105 patients with heart disease, admitted to a university hospital, located in northeastern Brazil, selected by convenience, consecutively. The data collection instrument will consist of an interview and physical examination form. The collected data will be organized into spreadsheets in Microsoft Office Excel 2010 and analyzed using the statistical software IBM SPSS Statistic version 19.0 for Windows and R. In consideration of ethical aspects, the project will be submitted to the Research Ethics Committee of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte. Therefore, contribute to NANDA International's nursing taxonomy, as well as to provide a standardized and easy-to-understand language for clinical practice nurses with cardiac disorders.
