RESUMO:

Endotracheal aspiration is one of the procedures commonly used to remove respiratory secretions that may obstruct the airways. 0.9% sodium chloride solution is commonly instilled into the orotracheal tube prior to aspiration and is intended to cough, liquefy and mobilize secretions. As a routine procedure and perhaps a ritualistic practice, the need for saline instillation has been questioned. Thus, this research aims to compare the effect of using 0.9% sodium chloride solution with the restricted use and non-use of this solution during endotracheal aspiration of premature infants using orotracheal tube under mechanical ventilation. invasive patients admitted to a neonatal intensive care unit - NICU, regarding the presence of complications during the orotracheal aspiration procedure, the number of hours of intubation and mechanical ventilation, the total duration of any oxygen therapy and the length of stay in the NICU. The research will be conducted in a reference Maternity in Natal / RN. This is a prospective, randomized, unblinded clinical trial with three treatment groups of 72 neonates who received ventilatory support for at least 12 hours. Children will be randomly assigned to three groups, the first group will receive saline on all aspirations, the second group will use the solution if strictly necessary and the third group will not use the solution during routine endotracheal aspiration. For data collection a structured form will be used. The study will follow the parameters of Resolution 466/2012 of the National Health Council. It is expected at the end of the study to compare the two groups and analyze the best intervention for newborns. In addition, the research results will support the development of care protocols to guide nursing actions and strengthen evidence-based nursing. The study is expected to contribute to the best intervention for newborns in neonatal intensive care units under mechanical ventilation.
