RESUMO:
The intensive care unit is a critical area for the hospitalization of critically ill patients. Patients admitted to this environment present impairment of one or more physiological systems, aggravating their general health status. Amidst the main existing comorbidities, there are respiratory complications. Given this scenario, we understand the need for qualified nursing care. The nursing process appears as an essential instrument in this context, highlighting the stage of nursing diagnoses. In this regard, the nursing diagnosis is cited. Ineffective airway clearance, prevalent in children, but with gaps in the adult clientele under intensive care. Thus, the present study aims to analyze the accuracy of the clinical indicators of the nursing diagnosis. Ineffective airway clearance in patients admitted to the intensive care unit. This is a cross-sectional study of diagnostic accuracy, according to the reference of Lopes, Silva and Araújo (2012). The sample consists of 104 patients admitted to the intensive care unit of a university hospital located in northeastern Brazil, selected by convenience, consecutively. The data collection instrument consists of a structured script of interview and physical examination. In order to support the data collection, a protocol with conceptual and operational definitions of the diagnostic components studied was used. The data will be organized in a Microsoft Office Excel 2010 spreadsheet and analyzed by the R 2.12.1 statistical software. This study was approved by the Research Ethics Committee under Opinion No. 3,241,219 and Certificate of Presentation for Ethical Appraisal: 09901619.0.0000.5537. It is expected, with the development of the research, that it will be possible to contribute to the improvement of the profession, improvement of the diagnostic inference in order to improve the nursing care to critically ill patients.
