RESUMO:
The objective is to analyze the association between night work and BMI in professional nurses on hospital shifts. It is an analytical study with a quantitative approach. The study will be developed at the University Hospital of Rio Grande do Norte. Data will be collected in 2020, using the following tools: Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index Questionnaire and the questionnaire for individual and sociodemographic characterization of their subjects. 268 nurses will be surveyed in their work shifts. After being coded and tabulated, the data will be analyzed using the SPSS version 20.0 program, to present the data in absolute and relative frequency, mean, median and standard deviation to describe the sample profile according to sociodemographic variables. Normality will be applied to assess the adherence of continuous variables to normal or non-normal distribution. The Chi-square or Fisher test will be used to compare sample characteristics by work shift. Data will be analyzed descriptively by position and dispersion measurements. The dependent variables BMI will be compared between day and night shifts by the Mann-Whitney test, if it is a sample with normal distribution, will use this parametric test cited. Otherwise, if it is a sample with non-normal distribution, it will use the nonparametric test which will be the t Test. The PSQ variables will be individually associated with the night and day shifts, using the Pearson or Spearman correlation test, depending on the distribution of normality.
