RESUMO:

Introduction: Newborns are exposed to a range of painful procedures at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and pain-relieving measures are required. The non-pharmacological treatment of pain seeks to reduce aggressive environmental stimuli, prevent physiological and behavioral alterations generating stress and reduce stress. Objective: To evaluate the use of 25% glucose solution and reflex therapy to relieve pain in neonates during arterial puncture. Method: randomized controlled trial consisting of three groups: 25% glucose, reflex therapy and control. The sample will be probabilistic, simple random, composed of newborns admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of a maternity school in Natal, who have indication of arterial puncture. Considering Cohen's effect size of 0.40, test power of 0.80 and significance level of 5%, we have a sample of 22 neonates per group. The inclusion criteria of the research are: newborns ≥ 32 weeks of gestation or weighing> 1500g and who have the Informed Consent Form (ICF) signed by their parents and / or guardians. The collection instrument is structured in three parts: data from the parent; birth and newborn data; NIPS-Brazil scale. The research will follow the ethical precepts in research with humans described in Resolution 466/2012 of the National Health Council. The collected data will be stored and processed in a computerized database using Microsoft Office Excel and Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 20.0.
