RESUMO:

For a long time, in the history of mankind, men were stablished as the financial providers of the family and, therefore, distanced themselves from their children development. However, new scientific evidence highlights the affective involvement of the male during the gestational period is crucial for paternity construction, establishment of the bond between father and baby and promotion of the mental health of the child and well-being of the woman. The prenatal assistance is very important of these process. Aim: to analyze the Social Representations attributed by the man during the prenatal consultations. Method: this study’s method is a descriptive exploratory research, with a qualitative approach, in the light of the Theory of Social Representations, in the structural aspect with the Central Nucleus Theory and Mute Zone, to be performed with men found at the Januário Cicco Maternity Scholl together with their partner who gave birth to their son. The inclusion criterias will be considered: men aged 18 or over who are accompanying their partner in the immediate postpartum period, present at the maternity ward; who self-declare to experience and experience at least three prenatal consultations and present favorable conditions for participation in the research. The following shall be excluded: men who doesn’t live in Natal and in its’ metropolitan area; men who are traveling as a result of labor issues; men who did not follow the partner's pregnancy in at least 3 prenatal consultations and the subjects with impaired cognitive functions. The research project will be submitted to the Plataforma Brasil which will direct it to the Research Ethics Committee of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte and, after obtaining the approval opinion, the research will be initiated and developed according to the ethics precepts established by Resolution number 466/2012, of the National Health Council. In order to make data collection viable, the Free Word Association technique and semi-directed interview script will be used, together with the Mute Zone of Words, in order to identify the Social Representations of these men. The data will be analyzed through a prototypical processing, which will allow the frequencies’ calculation and average evocation of the words in the interviews, in order to contribute, later, to the construction of the four-house framework (Central Nucleus Theory), making possible the identification of the central nucleus, elements of contrasts and the peripheries of representation. The analytical processing, this will be performed by the Interface Software for Multidimensional Analyzes of Textes et de Questionnaires (IRAMUTEQ), version 7 alpha 2. Expected results: with the development of this study it is expected that it will allow the apprehension of how relevant the participation of men is, as father figures, in the context of the companion's prenatal consultations. In addition, Nursing professionals will be aware of the responsibility they have with regard to the planning of actions that are contributory to the insertion of the man in prenatal consultations, in order to also direct the assistance to this public.
