RESUMO:

The human aging process is a global phenomenon and is also present among indigenous peoples. However, in Brazil, information on the health and culture of indigenous ancients remains fragmented. In order to enable a systematized nursing care of a quality that is culturally congruent, it is necessary to investigate and produce about the knowledge of the human responses in nursing, and the health care culture of this population. From this perspective, this study aims to describe the human responses in nursing and the health care culture of indigenous elderly people. This is a descriptive study with a mixed approach of methods. The setting is an indigenous community, located in the rural region of Rio Grande do Norte. The population of the study will be composed of indigenous elderly people living in an area supported by the Family Health Centers.  The sample will be composed by the total number of indigenous elderly people, approximately 90 individuals. The instruments of data collection will: be a nursing history script drawn from Leininger's Theory of Nursing: Cultural Care Diversity and Universality and the taxonomic domains of the North American Nursing Diagnosis Association International (NANDA-I); and a semi-structured form, with questions related to concepts of health and illness and health care experienced by the subjects of the study. The data collected through the instruments will be analyzed following two steps (RISNER, 1990): phase I - data analysis and synthesis; phase II - establishment of nursing diagnoses using the NANDA-I taxonomy (2018-2020). These data will be organized into tables and analyzed by means of descriptive statistics, presented in tables and graphs, and their absolute and relative frequencies, followed by the application of association tests. The data resultant from the interview will be analyzed based on Madeleine Leininger's Theory of Diversity and Universality of Cultural Care, using the thematic content analysis technique. It should be noted that all stages of the research will follow the ethical principles of Resolution No. 466/2012 of the National Health Council, being submitted to the Brazil Platform, and will await approval by the Research Ethics Committee of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte. The results of this study may contribute to better planning and implementation of nursing actions in a systematized form in primary health care, with the elderly indigenous population.
