RESUMO:

It aims to evaluate the safe care in the Neonatal Intensive Care Units of the Metropolitan Region of Natal / RN / Brazil. Evaluation study of the experimental type, with a before-after, randomized design. To do so, the study was subdivided into three methodological stages, namely: 1) investigation of the essential elements for the safe care from the accomplishment of a scoping review; 2) preparation of an instrument for the evaluation of safe care, with subsequent validation of content and appearance; 3) Measurement of safe care through an experiment with application of the assessment instrument before and after intervention in the services. In step 1, a scoping review was conducted in order to list the essential elements for safe nursing care. The construction of the evaluation instrument (graphic protocol) of safe care (step 2) was based on the indicators of assessment of the quality of care: structure-process-result, with adaptations for neonatal care supported by scoping review data. To validate the content and appearance of the graphic protocol nurses were registered judges from a search in the Platform Lattes according to previously established inclusion criteria. The Delphi technique was used, divided into two stages (Delphi 1 and 2) and the validation process was performed using an electronic form in Google forms. The relevance of the items was judged by the result of the Content Validation Coefficient, with a minimum value of 0.7 adopted. In step 3, for the measurement of safe care will be applied the instrument previously validated in the form of pre- and post-test, interspersed by an intervention. The study population, at this stage, consists of the nursing teams of the neonatal intensive care units of the metropolitan region of Natal. Sampling will be non-probabilistic and will involve seven neonatal units of public, private and philanthropic nature. The composition of the control and experiment groups will be performed with random allocation of the subjects, by randomization between the two groups (control and experiment) according to the characteristics of the Neonatal Intensive Care Units. The data will be analyzed descriptively and by measures of dispersion, as well as analysis of variance and correlation between the groups. All ethical precepts will be respected in accordance with the Research Guidelines and Rules, which are contained in Resolution no. 466/12 of the National Health Council of the Ministry of Health. The project was approved by the Research Ethics Committee of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte, issued CAEE nº 64879717.4.0000.5537.
