RESUMO:

Considering the prevalence of leprosy in Brazil and the incapacitating potential of its lesions even after the conclusion of the therapeutic scheme, it is most likely that those who were successfully treated for such disease have functional limitations, which play a negative role on the development of activities, social integration and quality of life. From this perspective, it is questioned: what are the functional limitations and their relation when it comes to activities limitation, social integration and quality of life of individuals who were treated for leprosy? H0: There is no relation between functional limitation and activity limitation, social integration and quality of life of discharged leprosy individuals; H1: There is a relationship between functional limitation and activity limitation, social participation and quality of life of discharged leprosy individuals. The general objective of the present article is to evaluate social and physical implications in discharged leprosy patients. The specific objectives are: To measure the degree of physical incapacity and functional limitation by means of the Eye-Hand-Foot score, in users who were successfully treated for leprosy; To estimate activity limitation and risk awareness of these patients; To evaluate their  restrictions when it comes to social participation; To describe the quality of life of cured patients; Associate functional limitation with activity limitation, restriction of social integration  and quality of life of leprosy discharged individuals. This is an analytical study, with a cross-sectional design, with a quantitative approach. It will be developed in the city of Natal / RN. The population is comprised of 169 users who completed treatment for leprosy in the period of time from 2011 to 2015 in Natal / RN, according to DATASUS. The sample of 120 users will be selected randomly by means of draw, following the eligibility criteria. Inclusion criteria are: leprosy patients who completed polychemotherapy in the years 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015, in a time standardized by the World Health Organization (WHO), according to the operational classification; to be registered in the database of the Nucleus of Notifiable Diseases of the Municipal Health Department of Natal; to have received treatment in Natal; to live in Natal; to be at least 18 years old and to agree to participate in the survey. To be excluded are those individuals with communication impairments that mightcompromise the effectiveness of the interview; people with psychic disturbance; individuals with neurological impairment other than the one caused by leprosy; interned patients as well as those who do not fulfill all data collection processes. Five data collection instruments were defined: Clinical and social characterization form, dermatoneurological physical examination script, SALSA scale, Participation Scale and the WHOQoL-bref instrument to evaluate the quality of life of discharged leprosy users, respecting the precepts of Resolution No. 466/2012 of the National Health Council that deals with research involving human beings. The research project was submitted to the Brazil Platform and approved by the Ethics Committee in Research (CEP), with a substantiated opinion number 2,054,508 and CAAE 64874316.3.0000.5537.
