KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS OF NURSING STUDENTS IN CARING FOR SKIN LESIONS: EVIDENCE OF VALIDITY OF INSTRUMENTS
Nursing; Validation studies; Nursing evaluation; Nursing care; Healing.
It is incumbent upon nursing professionals, among other responsibilities, to maintain the integrity of the skin, and it is necessary to establish procedures that guarantee the absence or that minimize the action of the factors that contribute to the alteration of that integrity. The semiology and nursing physical examination techniques subjects, provides the basic knowledge and skills development necessary for nursing practice related to skin lesion care. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the validity of content and agreement of the knowledge and skill instruments about nursing care to the person with cutaneous lesion, for nursing students. This is a methodological and analytical study, with a quantitative approach, that will be carried out at the Nursing Department of UFRN. The study was carried out in two stages: the first stage, validity of content and agreement of the knowledge instrument developed by Costa (2014) on nursing care for the person with cutaneous lesion of nursing students enrolled in the subject of semiology and nursing physical examination techniques, with application of the instruments in two moments, the first one before the theoretical classes of wounds and cicatricial process and the second one after the practical classes of dressings in laboratory. The second stage of the research will be checking the content validity and agreement of a checklist type observation script, Costa (2014), to verify the dressing technique in laboratory practice classes. The target population of the study will be the students enrolled in the subjects of semiology and nursing physical examination techniques in the year 2017. The data will be organized in electronic data sheet of Ms Excel and exported to a statistical software SPSS 21.0. After coding and tabulation, they will be analyzed through descriptive and inferential statistics. To verify the normality of the data, the Kolmogorov-Sminorf test will be used with respect to the variables - amount of knowledge hits and skill adequacy amount. After verification of the data set in normal and non-normal distribution, the parametric and non-parametric statistical tests will be proposed for the analyzes and considered a level of statistical significance of p-value ≤ 0.05. The Cronbach alpha will be analyzed to evaluate the internal consistency of the questionnaire and observation script, with acceptable α> 0.70 being adopted 16 .The level of agreement of the students will be analyzed by the Kappa coefficient (K) , the Content Validity Index (IVC), accepting indexes equal to or greater than 0.61 and 0.75 (good level), respectively . After this process, the data will be coded and tabulated, presented in the form of tables and charts, with their respective percentage distributions and results of the statistical tests. The project obtained a favorable opinion from the Research Ethics Committee of the University Hospital Onofre Lopes (CAAE No. 11090212.2.0000.5292).
