GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT OF THE CHILD WITH MICROCONFALIA ASSOCIATED WITH VERTICAL TRANSMISSION OF ZIKA VIRUS
Microcephaly. Nursing Care. Child Care. Maternal-Child Nursing.
Zika virus infection is characterized as being an acute febrile disease and in most cases is not associated with complications, causing asymptomatic infection to appear with a higher prevalence. In addition, currently the virus infection is associated with the outbreak of cases of microcephaly in Brazil and in the World. Microcephaly is an anomaly, in which there is poor brain formation, leading to irregularities of structures and functions in the newborn and are present at birth. Thus, there is a need to investigate the nursing professionals' performance both in maternal and child care, since many feelings permeate the heart of the mother and the family that receives the news of the gestation or birth of a child with microcephaly. Thus, the present study aims to monitor and analyze changes in the growth and development of children with microcephaly associated with vertical transmission of the Zika virus. This will be a cross-sectional and descriptive study of a quantitative approach to be performed at the Pediatric Hospital of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte, located in the city of Natal, at the Anita Garibaldi Health Research and Education Center in Macaiba, and the Children's Rehabilitation Center, all located in the state of Rio Grande do Norte. The collection will be performed between July and October 2017, through a data collection instrument divided into two parts, which will be applied to the mothers of newborns with Microcephaly and to be filled from the consultation of growth and development to the newly- births. The sampling plan used was Simple Random Sampling without replacement. This sampling plan selects each sample unit sequentially with equal probability, so that each sample has the same chance of being chosen. The sample was 108 newborns for all the research sites. From the registry of newborns registered in the care units will be a random draw of the newborns that will be followed during the months. It is hoped that the study will provide an overview of the situation of impairment of the growth and development of children with microcephaly due to vertical transmission of the Zika virus, in order to subsidize strategies for future interventions in the care of these children in order to improve the quality of life And the wider community.
