RESUMO:

The safety culture, understood as the product of values and attitudes in an organizational environment, is an important factor to be considered in the context of safe care in health services. It becomes necessary to recognize it so that professionals adopt strategies to ensure the safety of the patient in the most diverse scenarios of care practice. Therefore, it is proposed as an object of study the safety culture in the context of intensive care units (ICUs), under the look of nurses, once they are inserted in this environment and are responsible for the management of actions related to the care of patients. Thus, the objective is to analyze the culture of patient safety in intensive care units under the perspective of nurses, and it has as specific objectives: to analyze the perception of nurses about patient safety and to measure the culture of patient safety in intensive care units. It is a descriptive and exploratory study with mixed approach. The field study will be the general ICUs located in the city of Natal/RN/Brazil, which have similar characteristics; however, belonging to hospital services markets and with representations public and private agencies. The data collection will occur through semi-structured interviews with open-ended questions about the topic in question and completing the questionnaire entitled research about patient safety in hospitals (HSOPSC). The interviews will be analyzed with the aid of the software Iramuteq. The quantitative data from the sociodemographic questionnaire and the HSOPSC will be organized in a database with the use of the software Microsoft Excel 2016 and submitted to descriptive statistical analysis and significance with calculating the p-value. The project was approved by the Research Ethics Committee at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (CEP - UFRN) N 1,963,581 and certificate of submission for consideration ethics 62818516.7.0000.5537.
