RESUMO:

The safety culture of the patient presents with an issue of relevance considered as a strong indicator and an important tool for the evaluation of the quality of health services. However, the deployment of a safety culture is a challenge today, because the process of changing attitudes and behaviors in healthcare is slow, requires time and work, requires knowledge and participation of all professionals that comprise a component of health services provision, which makes paramount to join these efforts to achieve the goals proposed by the Ministry of Health to ensure patient safety and, thus contributing to the accession of a safety culture is effective and efficient. Thus, the study object of this research is safety culture in a health institution, considering the question: How the nursing professionals perceive the safety culture? In order to answer it, the objective is to analyze the safety culture in a unit of urgency and emergency. This is a study of the descriptive-analytical, developed at the Emergency Room Clovis Sarinho (PSCS). The data were obtained through the completion of the instrument of “Research on Patient Safety in Hospitals” (HSOPSC) composed of 42 items that address issues objective and subjective and cover 12 dimensions that measure the culture of patient safety, these items are evaluated according to the Likert scale of five points regarding the degree of agreement. Other issues, present in the instrument are related to the assignment of notes in patient safety, report the number of events reported and socio-demographic profile. As for the processing of such data, these will be analyzed descriptively using the statistical package for the determination of average values and percentages. The statements about patient safety, last issue of HSOPSC, were processed and analyzed with software support Interface de R pour Analyses Multidimensionnelles de Textes et de Questionneires (IRAMUTEQ). The study was submitted to the Research Ethics Committee of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte and passed on the advice embodied in paragraph 1,847,136 under Certificate of Introduction to Ethics Assessment N 61201316.3.0000.5537.
